STATS & PROFILE
What is Elo ranking?
The Elo rating in Backgammon Masters is a method to calculate your skill level compared to other players. It changes based on your game performance, considering various factors.
How is Elo Rating Calculated?
Your Elo rating fluctuates based on:
- Wins and Losses: Winning games increase your Elo; losing decreases it.
- Match Length: Longer matches have more impact as they rely more on skill.
- Opponent’s Rating: Winning against higher-rated players earns you more points.
- Player Experience: New players (less than 500 experience points) experience quicker rating changes.
The detailed formula is:
- Win (W) = (1 – P) * M * S
- Loss (L) = P * M * S
Where:
- W/L: Points gained or lost from a win or loss.
- P: Probability of winning, calculated as P = 1 / (1 + 10^(-D * √N / 2000)).
- D: Difference in ratings between the two players.
- N: Match length (total points the game lasts).
- M: 'Boost' modifier for new players, calculated as M = (500 - E)/100 for E < 400, otherwise 1.
- S: Stakes, or the number of rating points at risk, calculated as S = 4 * √N.
Example Calculation
Consider a match between Player A (Elo 1100) and Player B (Elo 1500). Player A wins a 3-point match. The Elo difference (D1) is -400. The win probability (P1) for Player A is 0.31, and the stakes (S) are 6.92. The points gained by Player A for winning are approximately 4.77, while Player B loses the same amount
